South Fork Air Co. is a heating-and-cooling referral service for the South Fork of Long Island: Southampton, Water Mill, Bridgehampton, Sagaponack, Wainscott, East Hampton, Amagansett, Montauk and Sag Harbor. We are not an HVAC contractor. We find a homeowner the right contractor for the job and put the two in touch, and that is the whole of it.
The problem we built this around
Heating and cooling out here is not the same trade it is thirty miles west. A large share of the housing stock sits empty for months, so a failure is discovered late and costs more. Salt air eats outdoor equipment on the ocean side at a rate inland installers do not plan for. Half the calls we expect are not repairs at all but a decision: keep the oil boiler, or move to heat pumps, and on what arithmetic. Those are three different contractors, and the difference between them is not who answers the phone first.
What we check before we introduce anyone
A current Suffolk County Home Improvement Contractor license. EPA Section 608 certification for anyone who will touch refrigerant. Liability and workers' compensation insurance. Local references, and a real track record with the specific equipment — a cold-climate heat pump conversion and an oil boiler swap are not the same skill, and we choose by the job rather than by who is free.
We do not sell equipment
No brand pays us to be recommended, and we do not carry a line. That matters more in this trade than in most: a contractor who only installs one manufacturer's air handlers will find a reason your house needs that manufacturer's air handlers.
What it costs you
Nothing. Participating contractors pay us a referral fee for the introduction; you pay the contractor for the work, on their quote, and your details are never sold on.

We publish cost ranges, the efficiency minimums New York actually enforces, and the incentives that are live this year, with sources — partly because a homeowner who knows what a fair quote looks like is a better client for a good contractor, and partly because most of what is written about HVAC incentives online is out of date. The federal 25C credit that half the internet still quotes expired at the end of 2025. Where a figure is national rather than local, we say so.

South Fork Air Co. launched in 2026 and is run from the East End. We are new and small, and would rather say so than imply a history we do not have. If something here is wrong or has gone stale, email us and we will correct it.
